I did it, I changed the format on my Linked In profile to “Open to Work”, for public consumption.
That means all my old colleagues and friends made over 20+ years in IT now know that I am looking for a new Role.
Can’t really be a surprise – I was public about leaving my old one in Feb 2021 and having a lovely long career break. However, the action itself felt like something to be ashamed of. Like, what you haven’t got the network, or kudos to have people coming to you. Weird.
Truthfully, I know I shouldn’t feel like that. How can anyone know I am open to a new role, if I don’t tell them? And whilst being a solo household, with no little ones, who has spent a lot of time in the garden and online, and not really travelling, (that damn C19 thing), not many people would know I am interested in the next thing.
What I am concerned about is what that next thing is going to be. I am fairly sure I am not going to so any of the wonderful care giving, world saving things I have explored in my time off. Happy to support others in doing these things, as an enthusiastic volunteer, fund raiser and donor, but have not found my tribe in those groups.
Is it valid to just go back to my previous industry? Is it valid to expect it to have changed? Allegedly there has been this big shift. apparently everyone is getting awesome jobs, with caring companies, who either offer 3 day weeks or mindfulness at the heart of their employee experience, and of course everyone is saving the planet, no matter what their role.
Is that true?

Post post update.
3 mins after changing the tag on Linked in. One of my old colleagues is already viewing my profile. Hmm. Here we go.
